about

When I was a kid, I used to have these horrible waking nightmares. Indescribably huge shapes that mostly appeared to me as spheres moving and shifting around my consciousness, followed by an intense feeling of cosmic horror. These dreams were a regular night time fixture until about six years old, which is about the same time that I came to understand that my existence was to be both painfully short and wholly insignificant.

Most of my life since that realisation has been plagued by regular periods of almost daily existential crises, often of a high enough intensity to distract me completely from my day to day existence. My ego refuses to accept our fate (nonexistence), so I often find myself preoccupied by blind panic about that very thing. The ego must die.

This is where I discovered the power of meditation and the power of surrendering myself to the void.

My childhood nightmares were always accompanied by an enormous, crippling sound, a sound I now believe to be part of my infantile brain's way of trying to comprehend the sheer scale of the universe I'm sitting in.

Here's four attempts to try to recreate that sound. I find these sorts of sounds to be a good accompaniment for contemplating the void outside, I hope some of you do, too.
